HoBLotH III
Lifeblood of the Hearth

Keith Berdak or Pat Nagel?
12:12
Upon thy world, five seasons hath passed since thy triumphant homecoming from HoBLotH II. Thou hast traded the Avatar's life of peril and adventure for the lonely serenity of a world at peace. But Netflix supermen cannot take the place of friends who died at thy side!

On thy mobile device, a notification rises and in moments the news is upon thee. Sprites of pixels lash the screen, conducting an unceasing crescendo of nostalgia. In a cataclysm of HTML and CSS, an ominous hyperlink strikes the display!

An event Tweet from The Hearth? Is this a sign from distant Britannia?

Thou dost bolt from thy chair, stumbling, running blindly to the computer. Onto the internet, down the Facebook page, through to The Hearth website, and to the event page.

Exultant memories wash over thee as thou dost peruse the description. When last thou saw a description such as this, thou ultimately wert knighted by Lord British after attaining Avatarhood (or Avatardhood as it were). But thy joy soon gives way to apprehension. The Hearth of Britannia events hath always been designed entirely by Rustic Dragon. This year thou knowest that the event is different. This year, thou knowest that to succeed, those who art worthy must step up and design and run the quests and activities for all others to enjoy! This year, thou must become the

HoBLotH III

Wednesday - Sunday
June 1st - 5th, 2016

8:00 a.m. Wednesday - 4:00 p.m. Sunday CDT
(Exact hours subject to change)

Austin, TX / Buccaneer's Den, Britannia

HoBLotH III: Lifeblood of the Hearth is a five day, four night live-action role-play event in the mythos of Ultima and Shroud of the Avatar. This event will create the experience of being in Britannia and New Britannia in the transitional years betwixt the Age of Armageddon and the first events in Shroud of the Avatar (with liberties taken and loopholes abused to allow the requisite flexibility for quests outside of this time period). With the exception of a few select Hearth run quests, all quests and activities will be designed and run by thee, the attendees!

Activities include feasting, questing, (safe) combat, puzzle solving, camping,
singing, dancing, music, mayhem, and, of course, RABBLE!

Decrees & Rules

Welcome O Seeker! Before thou dost choose to walk down that path of registration, there are three major decrees and three important rules that thou must read and follow:

  1. Thou Must Read, Understand, and Follow These Decrees and Rules
Just like Ultima games, there is some required reading. If thou art turned off by having to do some reading in order to attend an event, then this is not the event for thee. Guests who disregard the rules will be ejected from the event.

  2. No One Will Be Admitted Without a Confirmed RSVP
All attendees must register via the official form by clicking the "registration" sign at the top of the page. Only those whose names appear on the confirmed guest list will be admitted. Non-paying spectators and visitors are not permitted.

  3. There is No Room for Entitlement
All attempts will be made to make it as clear as possible to attendees exactly what this event is and is not. The host, Rustic Dragon, will personally vet all attendees via Skype/Google Hangout before confirming their RSVP. This ensures that all attendees have the best time possible. No one is guaranteed attendance.

While everything is flexible to a degree, whining will not be tolerated. If the description of the event, quests, and activities do not excite thee and/or if at any point thou dost feel an urge to complain, whine, or excessively argue because the event is not what thou expected, I urge thee to consider the possibility that this event is simply not for thee.

For specific examples, please read this comment.

The decrees above provide the framework for all Hearth of Britannia events. The rules below pertain to HoBLotH III specifically:

  1. Coming and Going is Discouraged
Unlike last year, attendees are not required to attend the entire event in order to have their registrations confirmed. While thou mayest arrive late and leave early as thy schedule dictates, coming and going willy nilly is discouraged. It is disruptive to the immersion of both thee and other attendees. Please plan to stay on site for the duration of thy time at the event and attend as much of the event as possible. (e.g. Please do not come for two hours on Thursday just to meet someone specific, leave the venue, and then return for two hours on Sunday.) Without attendees, the world is empty! Exceptions will be made for special cases.

  2. Garb is Required
As with all Hearth of Britannia events, attendees must dress in Ultima/SotA related garb. Thou needst not arrive in garb but it must be worn throughout the duration of the event. (Nifty looking and appropriate bed time garb will be praised by all but not required for attendance.)

While garb is required, thou needst not obsess too much over this. Historical accuracy is not required. At minimum, please avoid jeans and white tennis shoes. Also understand that thou mayest be tramping around on quests through some light woods and it will be early June in Texas. (i.e. If thou art planning on undertaking Fighter quests, plan not on wearing expensive and heavy feast wear the entire time!) While thou art certainly welcome and encouraged to bring changes of garb, it is not necessary. (i.e. a special, fancier set of feast wear is not required at dinner) Try thy best to dress like citizen of Britannia or New Britannia. Any and all garbing effort will be praised and appreciated. Above and beyond costumery may indeed be rewarded.

If thou hast any questions or concerns, please contact the host sooner rather than later.
Help will always be given to those who ask. Please see the list of garb resources to get started.

  3. Follow the Hearth of Britannia Code of Conduct
Last year, Rustic Dragon opened the gates Lord British's property to over fifty people, many of whom he hath never met in person. As to be expected with Virtuous Ultima fans, there were no major problems. Let's continue this tradition. In addition to the Official Hearth of Britannia Code of Conduct, please respect the following rules:

    • Respect the Property: Do not take objects from cabins. Do not deface or destroy any parts of the property (this includes both constructed items as well as plant and wildlife.)

    • Stay Within the Boundaries of the Event: The event is limited to Lord British's property. This will be obvious in most cases. The large cabin by the boat dock is NOT part of the event. When in doubt, ask.

    • The Tavern is NOT a Free For All: While beer, wine, and liquor will likely be available at the tavern, thou mayest only partake of designated event beverages. The bottles on the shelves in the back of the tavern are NOT to be consumed.

    • Do NOT Take Quest Items Unless Instructed: If thou dost see an interesting item that thou dost believe is for a quest, do NOT take that item unless thou art on the quest for the item. This can prevent people from completing quests!

    • Respect the Neighbours: Sound doth carry across the water! Quiet hours begin at 22:00 weeknights and 23:00 on weekends (including Friday).

Funding Goals

Whilst the price of admission this year has been reduced by half, greater funding allows The Hearth to provide a better experience for thee. The following schedule is presented to show what amounts of funding (via admission fees and donations) is needed to unlock specific event elements. This list is subject to change depending on vendor whim and availability.

Funds Received:

$10,000+

$500 UNLOCKED!

Libations for All
Whilst thou mayest bring thine own beverages, having to leave the venue to purchase more if thou dost run out is not fun. With $500 in the budget, The Hearth canst provide on-site drinks for all.

$1,500 UNLOCKED!

Catered Feast
The Hearth needs $1,000 to feed 100 people delicious Texas BBQ, which isn't bad at all when thou dost do the math.

$2,100 UNLOCKED!

Catered Breakfast
Thankfully breakfast is cheaper than the dinner at only $600 including coffee but it's still not free.

$2,500 UNLOCKED!

Questing Food
It'll take approximately $400 to stock the tavern with meat, cheese, and bread for the week.

$2,950 UNLOCKED!

Cloth Maps
Last year's double-sided cloth maps cost $450 to print. It would be awesome to have them again this year.

$3,450 UNLOCKED!

Quest Journals
The Hearth will need $500 to provide all 100 attendees with quest journals like the previous year.

$5,950 UNLOCKED!

Armoury
The Hearth can provide LARP weapons for all attendees to use but it will cost $2,500 for the order. (Swords will be kept by The Hearth for future events but may be purchased at cost for $25/each)

$9,450 TIMED OUT!

Custom In-Game Currency
For $3,500, The Hearth can have custom permanent metal currency made (just like the Ultima I coins) that thou wouldst be able to use at this and future events. If this amount is reached, players would start with a pouch of coins which would be used to purchase food and drink at the tavern, to reward players for Quests, and more. Even better, these coins would be designed by none other than Scott Jones, Denis Loubet, and Rustic Dragon.

Instead

Additional Awesomeness
Unfortunately, there is no longer enough time to have custom coins designed and manufactured for the event, even if the funds are raised.

Note: There WILL be in-game currency at the event, just not custom made currency.

The host is instead using these funds for other event enhancements:

  • Better Cloth Maps: 18" x 12" maps instead of 12" x 12"!
  • Custom Magic Weapons: Magebane and the Shadeblade return in custom form!
  • Coin Bags: Need something to hold your coins? The Hearth has thee covered.
  • Additional Decorations and More

$10,000+

Contingency/Extras
Additional funds will be used for incidental expenses such as renting equipment, subsidizing VIP travel, compensating potential performers, creation of additional trinkets, insuring against any unforeseen expenses, and incentive for future events.

Building Sponsorship

All buildings hath been sponsored!
Thank thee!

To help raise funds for the event, thou mayest choose to sponsor one (or more) of the buildings below starting at $100/building. If thou dost sponsor a building, thy name will appear on this website as the sponsor as well as having thy name (or a name/phrase of thy choosing) written in calligraphy and runic on a sign and placed on the building for the duration of the event. At the end of the event, thou mayest keep the sign (or it will be mailed to thee if you didst not attend but chose to sponsor a building).

Attendees, if thou wouldst like to sponsor a building,
please specify thy choice when submitting thy payment information.

If thou canst not attend but still wish to sponsor a building, please contact the host by sending a message through the Hearth of Britannia Facebook Page. Please do not send payment until thy building preference has been confirmed and thou hast received payment instructions.

Sponsoring a building does NOT mean that thou dost get it for lodging.
Cabins are assigned based on need.

"Welcome, O Seeker!"

"At last thou hast come to fulfill thy destiny," the gypsy says. She smiles, as if in great relief.
"Firstly, I needs must ask," the gypsy slides a parchment and quill toward thee...

"By what name shalt thou be called in Britannia?"
